These were two of the main reasons why Abfallwirtschaft Potsdam-Mittelmark chose Modulo.

The waste management company deliberately opted for Modulo because they use the tried-and-tested Modulo concept, which involves modular construction using prefabricated U-shaped elements.
Flexibility was important, as the recycling centre can be easily expanded at any time or adapted to future developments. Optimal use of floor space was also a plus point for APM. Thanks to the construction using U-shaped elements, the space beneath the platform can also be utilised. In Teltow, a platform with two interconnected levels of 2.60 and 1.55 metres was chosen. The additional square metres beneath the platform can thus be used very efficiently, e.g. for the storage of equipment, raw materials and supplies.

A roof covering the entire recycling centre and an extra-wide ramp
The containers are situated on the raised Modulo platform. Visitors drive up onto this platform and tip their sorted waste into the containers from above. This is a major change from the old setup. At the current recycling centre, which remains in operation during the construction phase, the containers are at ground level with no raised access. Another major change is that the entire platform of the new recycling centre will be covered. This is convenient for visitors and staff, as they are sheltered from the weather not only in the rain but also in the summer heat.

APM made a conscious decision to install a roof covering the entire recycling centre, as this ensures that the waste streams in the containers remain dry. Modulo have also fitted two canopies, one of which is positioned at ground level above a row of containers. Furthermore, in line with the requirements of the German water authorities, there will also be a roof covering the containers for brown and white goods. The containers on the platform and at ground level are easily accessible, as great importance was attached to the layout during the planning stage. For example, there is an extra-wide access road so that cars can drive onto the platform without any problems. As the platform is elongated, visitors can drive through in a straight line and do not need to turn round or reverse. This prevents traffic jams on the platform. In addition, the ramps that are not covered by the roof are heated in winter. This prevents ice from forming and thus keeps the surface safe for visitors.
Modulo was involved in this project for Abfallwirtschaft Potsdam-Mittelmark several years ago. Modulo produced the design and is now constructing the future-proof recycling centre, including all the roofs. The final stage has now been reached.
