Detailed description of working activity
Prof. Mihajlov is experienced environmental expert with about 25 years of experience in waste and environmental management and policy development, environmental governance related to sustainable development and environment, and more than 15 years of experience working in supporting EU environmental acquis transposition/ implementation/ enforcement/ monitoring in new EU Member States and Candidate and potential Candidate countries. Extensive experience in Strategy and Policy Development, Waste Management (including industrial and mining waste), as well as in Waste Management Planning. Proven experience in technical assistance to countries in transition. More than of 10 years of experience related Safeguard Policies, in particular on Environmental Assessment, Environmental and Social Assessment, Environmental and Social Sustainability, Resource Efficiency and Pollution Prevention, Stakeholder Engagement and Climate Risk Assessment. Proven experience in capacity-building projects. Extensive experiences in the fields of chemical, process design and project management and environmental infrastructure projects.

Senior researcher and professor (Full Professor at University of Novi Sad – Faculty for Technical sciences, Department for Environmental Engineering, retired in December 2014); Has more than 300 scientific papers; more than 50 references in waste management;
Academic Council on the United Nations System expert, from 2014;
National mentor of Foundation for Environmental Education in Serbia, from 2011.
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Black Sea - Leadership Council Member from Nov 2021.

Former activities
Andjelka Mihajlov was the Serbian Minister for the Protection of Natural Resources and Environment (2002-2004); has a prominent role in leading the Reform Agenda of Serbia in Environmental Sector. Conducting (supervising) National Waste Management Strategy I. Among other Dr Andjelka Mihajlov was also the head of Country Delegation at the Johannesburg Summit in 2002, different ministerial meetings, etc. She has strategic thinking and rich experience. In 2006 recognized UNEP Women Who is Who in Environment as the Environmental Leader of Western Balkan.
Member of the Serbian government Core team for negotiations with the EU (from August 13, 2015 to April 2021), responsible for specific sectors in Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change (more specifically air quality, chemicals climate change, waste management-implementation, water -implementation).
Has also recognition titles “Environmental Ambassador for Sustainable Development”. By invitation, A. Mihajlov was Member of EBRD ESAC (Environmental and Social Advisory Council), formerly ENVAC - It is an independent body of environmental specialists who advise the EBRD on environmental issues such as policy, international standards, technical development, emerging trends and future opportunities, London, UK (2005-2010).
