New Ikea Preowned Platform

Until the end of the year the Swedish furniture group will be testing a preowned online Marketplace in Oslo and Madrid.

The platform allows users to sell their used Ikea furniture directly to other users. The new online store could be seen as a direct competition to other online stores such as eBay. The users upload Images and a Price for their furniture for other to see. Then a place and time for the exchange of the furniture is agreed.

There are two ways to get payed: via bank transfer or receiving and Ikea gift Card with an extra 15 percent added to the furniture's Price. Although momentarily using the platform and Publishing a listing is free a small fee could be applied in the future. For now the Marketplace will be active until december, after which an Evaluation will take place to deceide the next steps. If the Business model is successfull the plan is to implement it worldwide.

This new approach goes beyoond what Ikea is already offering; accepting used furniture and reselling it in their physical stores.
