Kanadevia Hands Over the New Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility to Indaver

Works to fully commission the UK’s newest Waste to Energy facility have completed, allowing Kanadevia Inova to handover the plant to Indaver who will take it into its operational phase.

Developed by Indaver Rivenhall Limited and designed and built by Kanadevia Inova, the new Rivenhall IWMF will begin to deliver significant environmental and energy benefits for the county of Essex and neighbouring regions.

Construction works started in October 2022 on the Waste to Energy (WtE) facility with the Provisional Acceptance Certificate being issued on 18th April 2026, confirming that all construction and commissioning activities have now been successfully completed.  Kanadevia Inova will also continue to provide support to Indaver under a Long-Term Service Agreement which was previously agreed in June 2025. 

Located in a former quarry, the modern two-line Rivenhall IWMF will process up to 595,000 tonnes of non-recyclable (residual) municipal and commercial waste annually, which will generate 55MW of electricity – enough to power over 125,700 UK homes.

Sustainable management of Essex’s non-recyclable waste

Importantly, the IWMF is the first WtE facility to be built and operated in Essex which will now treat residual waste as a valuable resource. The Rivenhall facility will not only divert this non-recyclable residues from landfill - the least sustainable form of waste management - the plant will also reduce the carbon footprint of non-recyclable waste, by negating the need to transport it long distances for out-of-county treatment or overseas export.
