Cities and buildings are urban mines for raw materials and bind large quantities of
valuable resources for various periods of time. In addition to the common recycling
activities, primarily for mineral construction residues, a market for well-preserved 2nd
hand structural components and materials is emerging.
The direct re-application of structural components secures the high-grade reuse of
building materials. Thus waste prevention, first demand of the the practical circular
economy, is top priority. The deconstruction already needs to be taken into account
when prospective buildings are being planned. The Federal Association Bundesverband
bauteilnetz Deutschland e.V. is actively supporting the reuse of construction
components and the high-grade recovery of building materials.
