13 Years of Experience from a Waste to Energy Plant of the EU-ETS

Swedish Waste to Energy plants have been included in the EU-ETS since 2013 and are submitting allowances at a high cost. Although Swedish plants are outstanding in energy production of waste not suitable for recycling, the lack of a levelled playing field, is causing a threat to a good waste management system decreasing environmental and climate effects of waste.

 
If not a more levelled playing field is achieved, where all Green House Gas emissions from European WtE and possibly landfills are included in the EU-ETS, climate emissions from waste will increase.
